Don't know what websites but I have been led to believe the cheapest way is to get something old and french. Something to do with heated fuel pumps or filters or something.
A friend ran a 1.5 106 on chip oil. He diluted it in diesel mind. He swore buy it until Gordy increased the taxation on the oil.
Personally I'd just buy the cheapest naturally aspirated diesel I could find and ready dilute the oil in diesel. If it pops it pops.

You will be fine with a 40-50% (veg' oil - diesel) mix in the summer, any more veg' oil than that and it wont be able to pull it out of the tank.

You can buy it from certain places that have set up, I know one in Burnley whose mixture ended up clogging my fuel pipes and killing the fuel pump :s that was on a 320d.
I think its good to stick to 90% normal diesel and only 10% bio-oil as it is a helluva lot thicker than standard diesel...

Any XUD with a Bosch pump will be good, 306, ZX, 405/6. Any VAG 90/110bhp non PD will run a mix without any conversion, up to 80% to derv mix, thin a little with petrol and add a booster Millers for instance. My Alhambra runs a treat on it. You can get single and dual tank conversions but there is a cost overhead either of these engines should run ok without, at least in my experience with an XUD (20k) VAG 110 (60k) and VAG 110 (10k).
I get my oil 35p a litre dewatered and filtered as its used. Check ebay and the vegetableoil forum mentioned already for used oil suppliers, otherwise costco is the cheapest 72p a litre.
This beats lpg as you get decent range and mpg at a low fuel cost, the only downside is finding suppliers and the cold reducing the mix you can put in.
Put it this way, I pay about 50p a litre and get 45mpg, about the equivalent of 100mpg at pump prices.
You could find a local Indian that will give you the stuff, filter it, dewater it and away you go for free. However I buy my oil as its not worth the hassle.

What is a "Any VAG 90/110bhp non PD " engine? And whats more, is what Ive got in this '95 tdi Passat?

Ive looked on that diesel veg site and yes its great, but by God its geek paradise and I really cant be f
ked with geeking this st. Its just fuel, I run a banger, I dont care about the tech side. What "oil" of whatever variety can I chuck in the tank of my bargain barge and run it without having to do any hands on work? So you buy pre-sorted oil? And you just shove it in your tank yes?
Before running any diesel car on veg oil, check the make of fuel pump on your car.
As mentioned, Bosch are ok; Lucas are not! The veg oil buggers up the seals etc in the Lucas pump - not a cheap part to replace!
I have two Diesels, both with Pug XUD turbo engines - unfortunately they're both fitted with Lucas pumps.

As the weather gets colder you'll probably need to reduce the amount of oil in the oil/diesel mix. Veg oil thickens up a lot quicker than diesel - hence why on the veg oil forums you'll see posts about building a pre-heating circuit into a separate tank for the oil to make sure it's thin enough to run through the system.
Also, after you've run a few hundred miles with veg oil, change the fuel filter - veg oil is better than diesel at cleaning crud out of the system and this can then block the filter and cause fuel starvation. Some folk change the fuel filter each time they change the engine oil filter (at least the first few times) to make sure they catch the crud.

I run a '92 Toyota Estima on a veg / diesel mixture, varying from 100% diesel in the winter to 90% veg in the summer. This is achieved by buying it from the supermarket, tipping it into the tank, and topping it up with diesel.
(Yes, I only use clean / new oil from the supermarket.)
I had no other conversions done, but I did change the fuel filter soon after starting. As far as I'm aware, it is more difficult / impossible to run a direct injection engine on veg, especially without a conversion.
Currently veg is about 85p a litre in the 3 litre things from most supermarkets. A healthy saving, but not as good as the 49p it was a couple of years ago. I did get some for 80p a litre in 10 litre drums from Tesco a while back too.
Overall I'd say the actual mpg is about the same on veg as diesel, but people following me do have a hungry look on their faces. It smells a little like a chip shop.

I've just upped the 300d to about 85% new veg oil-added a redex diesel additive to help clean out the system too. The gauge is on about 7/8ths at the moment and I'll top it up with diesel next time I'm out. First time on veg and it ran a bit rough-changed both fuel filters (about £5 for the pair) and it's been fine. Got another spare pair of filters in the car in case it gets clogged again-as may have already been mentioned veg oil is great at cleaning all of the crap out of your fuel tank, clogging your filters in the process. Took it a wee spin after putting the veg in and it seems OK, I have the filters in case I need them and it's a 5 minute job to change if need be.
I bought my oil from a local chinese supermarket (beside Euro Car Parts in Glasgow) I paid just under £50 for 60 litres. This is not a massive saving over supermarkets but it comes in 20l drums which is less hassle than trying to fill my 80l tank with 3l bottles from Asda.
Would be interested in how much Costco and the like charge for oil, I'm not a member at the moment but could get membership if it gave me a good saving. Am also looking into used oil supplies in my area-the merc can run it as long as its filtered/dewatered. If I can secure a source I'll get a couple of drums in the shed and have a go.
If you have an old diesel that can do it then give it a try, the 190 you mentioned should be perfect....
