NEW M1 Speed Cameras

For those PHers who use the M1 J6-10 North and South the new cameras for variable limits have started to be installed on the gantries don't know if they are live yet saw them today.

We've had them on the m42 for ages. Thing that really fks me off, I'll Be in the outside lane doing 60 as the restriction speed states, yet arse holes still get on your back bumper, so I move over and they go past easily doing 70, does the camera go off?
Does it bks.

Has anyone been done by one out of curiosity?

And we all know what a good job these variable speed limits do at reducing congestion, just look at the now free flowing M25 for an example, oh wait...

Already been a thread on this I believe.

A colleague got done by the cameras in the roadworks section (not sure if those are the same or if they're separate temporary units?) she got three points for 73mph, which leads me to believe they probably trigger at 70mph in the (50mph limit) roadworks. I don't intend to put this to the test though, and yes it was rather stupid of her to be doing 23mph over the limit past a load of camera gantries.

I used that stretch of road the other day, it was so nice to be able to drive in some free flowing traffic for just a few minutes before you hit the london congestion. They have fixed it now, eh?

The yellow ones stating 'average speed cameras' do exactly that.

But I know a couple of people who do 70 in between each camera on the m42 (slowing down to the speed limit for each camera) and they've never been caught.

I'm happy to toddle along at 50 though and not take the risk, I'm point free in 10 days!

I thought the M42 ones were variable speed cameras. They were just normal gatso's with the ability to apply a different limit to them from a central location. Not average? But they make it out that there's so many of them so close to each other that's it not worth wasting the petrol speeding up and slowing back down again?

Plenty of people get up to an indicated lepton, at least, between the M42 ones or even through them if it's not showing a limit.

Are the speed cameras on the M1 through Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire working? They have spent an inordinate amount of money on gantrys and painting markers on the roads yet everyone seems to be driving through them over the speed limit like they are not there.

I have yet to see any cameras installed on those gantries...

Sounds about right - lightweight gantries too, which would require lane or carriageway closures to attend to the cameras (you can't send an engineer on these sort of gantries) via a cherrypicker - bad, costcutting design !!
