Am I the only one on PH who doesn't know what a BMW Ethirty something or rather is?
People constantly refer to BMW's with their E number and I'm just confused

Why can't you just say...3 series from the late 90's - the nice looking one, or 5 series with the stupid boot bulge and rubbish looking headlights - I know what you're talking about then.

(No, this isn't really serious enough for the BMW or GG forum, just a minor annoyance)

Flanders.

I thought knowing the E numbers was part of the PH entrance exam?

You think that using vague descriptions like that would be less confusing? laugh

Are they actually just random numbers generated with each new model?

I've never understood the pattern to why they are given the specific number they are?

They have been counting up over the years, E was for entwicklung, which is "development" or a similar word, they only swapped to F as they had ran out of Es.

Every missing number will match up to a sketch on a drawing board somewhere.
