I went to look at one a couple of months back, and I agree, they're utterly dull. The car was competent enough. The engine was reasonably good. Refinement was slightly better than average. It felt quite well screwed together. In other words, it was... well.... alright, I guess.

If only it had some... 'imagine'.

It seems fine to me, for the purpose it's designed for.

It's smart-looking enough, should be well made, comfortable, refined.

When buying a car like that, I want something comfortable on the motorway that won't visit a petrol station or dealer too often.

It won't set your trousers on fire but, like Ford with the new Focus, VW can't risk trying that as for every man who thinks something is different or innovative another thinks it's weird or ugly.

And in comparison with the size of one's :cough: personal tank. :cough:

Having done a far number of mega mile road trips, often find that I need a stop to empty and fill my personal tanks (ie something to eat/drink/deal with other end) long before a tank of fuel is exhausted. The one exception to that might be if one is hacking at serious pace for long distances on German autobahns, but then is that all that relevant outside Germany, and even then inside Germany?

I found the new Passat VII 2.0CR TDi Bluemotion quite an OK place nothing special, screwed together well, apart from when trying to do a lifesaver over the shoulder look when the seat headrest seemed very obstructive to vision. Much more than normal.

Also, as always, unimpressed by usual demonstrater trick of fitting every extra under the sun to try and kid the unwary about equipment levels

Not a dig at you, just that plenty of car manufacturers seem to like this stat snf it annoys me a bit. But it could have a 30 gallon tank for all I know.

It's about as relevant as claiming "only fill up once a month"

I'd say the new passat does exactly whats its expected to for the market it is aimed at.

No doubt it will do very well.
