Odd buildings near roads?...

Every now and then you see an Odd building beside the countries highways. Or at least I do. And after passing them a few times you're none the wiser as to their purpose.

For instance. What was/is this building for?

It's not offices, and it's very tall and narrow for a factory...so what is it for?

The only buildings I can think of like that work with grain, the BOCM animal feeds plant in Selby and a place that produces brewing malt near Malton

I had a strange feeling it was going to be grains stores in Oxford before opening this.

'A World War II s grain storage depot, opened in 1943 and closed in 1967. Located close to the Water Eaton Bridge. This depot was a part of Buffer Depot 450F. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey (1995-2002) the site was described as in an uncertain condition.'

Well that's that answered then. You'd get a hell of a lot of grain in that!

Yes you're right it's the Kidlington grain silo.

The M6 one is a salt / grit storage site IIRC, there is something to do with the shape which makes it better for keeping stocks dry

Most likely, almost identical to the one next to the M8 at Barlinnie, which is definitely a salt/grit store due to the parking area full of gritters next to it.

Railway tunnel vent, zoom out and look south west and you'll see the line appear.

Brilliant. Never considered it to be vents as the old tunnel near me, the vents are nowhere near that kind of size. Thanks for solving the mystery. Well, at least it was to me, lol.
