They're a bit steep can you not find anything a bit more budget.

It's about £300 a side for something decent. Unsurprisingly, typing 285/30 R19 into google brings up hundreds of links to places selling tyres that will fit.

no 'e' euro compliance mark, no legal use in UK?

Don't know if the Pirellis have the E-mark, but just had delivered Bridgestone Potenza S02 N2 that has a small square with E4 (inside the square)followed by a serial number, also have a DOT number.
Could always contact Tire Rack?
