Whats the best alternative engine for a Mx5 mk 3 ????

my sons engine has major problems cam shaft, crank shaft con rods etc all f**ked looks like we have to replace engine so come on guys what would be a good alternative as we have to fork out approx £2k ??? cosworth? fireblade?
