Does anyone use autotrader to look for a car any more?

cars = autotrader
auctions = eBay
rightmove, eBay and autotrader are so big they have their own "gravity", by which I mean that most sellers are there, which draws in most buyers, and so most sellers go on there. They have the critical mass to dominate with all other competitors being minnows by comparison. You might consider ph classifieds to be a rival to auto trader, and maybe it is for specialist stuff, but for the vast majorty of normal cars and non-petrolhead buyers (they outnumber us!) I think autotrader is still the default 1st port of call.
So yeah, I'd say you'll get more view on autotrader.
Finally, my own prejudice makes me think that eBay sales are more likely to be scams than autotader ones. I've got nothing but gut feel to back that up. Probably stems from years and years of warnings about eBay scams being drummed on about.

aye, don't need a reason for sale unless you have only owned it a very short amount of time.
I would also add that different mediums for selling require different style adverts.
AT: just list what is has. facts only, no frilly stuff.
PH: people will generally know the facts, so sell the car.
EBAY: (This is the one that catches people out) Less is more. keep your add down to around 10 short lines. on ebay people look through so many adverts so quickly, any block of text or too much information, and they will ignore all of it. very very basic thre liner adverts in ebay have always worked much better for me.
yes I know you want to list everything the car has, but don't. just put anything exceptional. mileage, bhp, last service, advisories. that will probably do.

I put my car on PH,Autotrader and eBay and it sold on Auto Trader in the end. I bought my 2nd C2 from eBay and my MX5 from AutoTrader.

I'd say AT is probably worth a punt, as it is the medium that I always use to find a car or a typical price. When discussing cars with mates the conversation usually turns to "I was on autotrader the other day and..."
Gumtree perhaps? Don't see any harm on having it on the free sites, unless you get some idiots phoning up.
Furthermore, I'd cut the ad down a bit. I would suggest 10 pieces of info tops: Price, age, mileage, a few of the less obvious extras (we can see that it has Recaros and is yellow

Had my Scooby on PH and AT and didnt have any interest at all from AT (phone or email). Had a bit from PH and Scoobynet. Ended up selling it to a main dealer who advertised in the WANTED section on PH.
Bought a 52reg Focus diesel from PH in the end though i was looking on AT as well.

Have you asked http://www.revitupuk.com/ if they are interested as i noticed they tend to sell a quite a few Clio's over the years.

Ive had a couple of traders asking to buy it but they don't seem to be content in getting it for anything less than a ridiculous price. I'd rather persevere and deal with it myself.
