10mph Average Speed Cameras Installed

Hi PHers - I used to post here a while back but couldn't remember my details so I've started this new account.

As the title says, 10mph average speed cameras have been installed near me, this must be a record for the lowest speed limit enforced by average speed cameras surely!

It's on the newly refurbished Ryde Pier which is not a public road AFAIK - if I get snapped burning along at an average of 12mph do you think a court will prosecute?

I am an overner, but live in ryde! How can they possibly enforce that limit? I don't think my speedo starts until 10mph. Is it just another wightlink scam? Does it count as a public road the pier?

Not sure of the rules, but years back, well 80's at least there was no legal requirement for a speedo on a vehicle not capable of exceeding 30mph. Mopeds / tractors / milkfloats etc. So if you had said vehicle would it be enforceable?

Also speedos are not actually required to read below 15mph anyway, at least as far as i remember.
Quite a few diesels would probably pass 10mph at tickover any way. Even my 1.9 Passat ticksover at around 8mph at tickover.

Hi Mike, I'm a Ryder as well. I guess it will be unenforceable rather like parking tickets at supermarkets, they'll send a speculative invoice to the registered keeper and those that know will ignore it, those that don't will pay. The speed limit is definitely necessary as its made of wood and gets like ice when its wet but I can't remember ever seeing anyone speed on it anyway! They've also added a £1 toll but reduced the parking charges so I guess they're trying to discourage casual trips along the pier and encourage parking for the ferry.
