Is it possible to get a days insurance for a vehicle?

Hi guys,

A friend of mine wants me to pick up a car he's just brought from London (2001 1.4 golf) it's a 200 mile round trip. Is it possible to get a days insurance for the vechile? Problem is I'm only 19 so this maybe an issue any suggestions?

Are you fully comp insured on your own car? If so does it inlude cover to drive other cars on a third party cover basis - many policies do, but whether this is restricted for young drivers I dont know.

It is usually restricted to over 21, and the other car has to be insured too. Is it not easier to get someone older, parent ect to pick it up?

First stop is your own insurance company - they should be able to add the car to your existing policy for a day (assuming they'll cover you). I have to do this when I get a courtesy car from the garage when mine's in for servicing.

OP - Unfortunately its not possible to get short term insurance for under 21s.

You could get a day insure or temp cover policy for anyone though. Take your mum or dad and name them as the driver. For these temp policies (you can do it all online) it doesn't matter who owns the car, or who it's registered to. It's purposely for getting as new car home or borrowing a mate's car.

Because genuinely interested as to why someone would go to such lengths for a 10 y/o base model golf. Seems like a lot of trouble for a very common car which is hardly desirable.
