New motorway feckwit game?

Do we have some new game of feckwittery among the chav class..?
Conveying an elderly lady down the M1, I was in lane 1 with cruise set at 70.
Ahead was some traffic, closest of which was a BMW 3, four-up, middle lane cruising at about 60.
Pulled out to pass in lane 3.
Passed.
Checked nearside mirror before pulling back into lane 1, to find chummychav has accelerated up to my rear nearside, thus blocking me in lane 3.
Accelerated to clear him, then moved to lane 1.
Chummychav stayed in lane 2, a little way back, until I wanted to pull out of lane 1 to overtake more traffic, then he accelerated level to keep me in lane 1 and made me brake for the traffic ahead of me.
I dropped back until chummychav passed. He pulled ahead, still in lane 2, then slowed to 60ish again.
Still in cruise at 70, I pulled out to pass him, then back into lane 1.
Then he slowly came alongside in lane 2 and passed me again, with his three passengers looking back at me, the front passenger photographing me with a compact camera.
Then he accelerated away and was gone.
Six junctions further along, he was parked up on the hard shoulder and rejoined the motorway as I passed, sitting on my tail for a few miles, with me in lane 1, him in lane 2.
Then he passed, all passengers staring backwards at me again.
At that point it ended because my elderly passenger needed a wazz and I pulled into the services at J15a.
This lot baffled me. I was in a plain Mondeo, wasn't driving naked, wasn't driving in any way that might annoy them.
So, what were they up to? Trying to hinder my progress? Trying to run me into another vehicle, trying to get me to hit them for an insurance scam? What?
I recall a recent thread when someone witnessed similar antics as a car tried to hold another on a slip road.
Anybody else experienced this...?

Hmmm that would have worried me. Forget about the legalities of mobile phone use when driving, I'd have called the BiB as soon as I realised they were waiting on the shoulder for me.

I had a weird one yesterday. Driving back from a gig at 10pm or so, windy country lane with some houses around, 30/40 limits. Following 3 cars, the front one was doing 20-25 mph, but nowhere to overtake. I was pretty chilled, music on, and followed a safe distance back. Oldish C-class with a blown headlamp came up behind me, not too close, and joined the queue. One of the cars ahead of me turned off, and the other two including the slow one took the next turning. Just to clear the cobwebs I booted hard it up to the limit, ~20mph up to 40, and then dropped into top gear. Next thing I know the Merc is wheezing up behind me flashing his lights like my car was on fire or something! Checked the gauges and warning lights, checked foglamp off, nothing amiss.
He followed me at a distance for a while, and then I turned off. Got home, had a good look round the car - all in order.
All I can think is he was upset at my perfectly legal acceleration

Weirdo!Just think that hidden deep on some forum somewhere there will be a post about some idiot on the motorway in a Mundaneo who kept changing lanes, and driving fast and slow, jsut to try and keep up with me; and then wanted to race me ......

I've had similar where I keep overtaking the same vehicle every 5-10 mins.
I usually set my cruise control to a gps indicated 71mph. I'll eventually meet someone going slower than me, who I overtake. They will then overtake me before slowing back down again. I end up catching them up so overtake them once again. They will then overtake me before slowing back down. And on it continues. Highly irritating and annoying.

I was in my Mondeo doing just over 70 on M4 heading in to join M25 and BMW in centre lane cruising at 55 so I have to pull right out to lane 3 and cross in front of him back to lane 1 he now speeds up and behave similar to OP cock.
I have also had someone speed up and slow down trying to stop me joining a motorway.
Just treat it as a game to avoid but do not get excited as they have limited brain cells.

I don't often have to do long journeys but had this exact experience last week. GPS indicating 75 on cruise control and I had to overtake the same van 5 times. He seemed to be doing anything between 60 and 80. Surely everytime I went past him he would look at his speedo and realise why!I usually set my cruise control to a gps indicated 71mph. Also had an annoying encounter with an X3 that kept going between 70 and 80 ish. Meaning I would overtake them then they would overtake me then we would both overtake another car they would slow down and pull in I would continue overtaking them and then they would gradually accelerate meaning I wasn't able to complete the overtake. This repeated itself about 10 times before it became so tedious I had to put some space between us to stop it.
Don't people look at their speedo when this sort of thing happens and spot that it's always different?
