Impreza to CTR
Discussion
As a daily a hot hatch can be good fun, and less demanding that a Scooby. I did tons of driving in my old ST170 and always loved it. I then bought a WRX PPP which was great, however, occasionally it seemed too much hard work (for example, when doing dull work motorway runs). Then I got an STi which I hate using for work, but love as a weekend toy (I now have a derv for work).
If you have an STi now, then I think the CTR will seem somewhat paltry when you want to have a laugh.
Have you thought about a Focus ST. They are great and sound good. Although, the MPG is that of a 350bhp car.

Anyone who tries to yell you a classic impreza is a nicer place to be than a newage, is talking out of their hat IMHO. I very nearly did the swaperoo from my current hawkeye, to an FN2 CTR. I drove it, and although it's very "modern" inside, I decided against it, I'd rather pay to keep the scoob going. I'm giving about 6 mpg, and a couple of hundred quid in insurance and tax, for about 100 horses and the turbo grin
Again, anyone who says the Vtec (yo) is as good a buzz as the turbo, is speaking from their hat.

I went to a Integra Type R after owning all manner of scooby's because I was after something different...
Torque is what it comes down to
The VTEC is a screamer. It likes screaming, and needs to scream to perform.
The scooby has oodles of torque (not to mention BHP too) and makes for comfortable, respectable, unstrained progress.
It comes down to personal preference, but I did a 120miler around Shropshire's finest B roads on Saturday in the STi (classic) and loved every second. I would not have liked to have done it in the VTEC

It's not really that much of a problem, van drivers seem to manage without a rear window.
If it's there I still look out of mine through rear view whereas the van has larger door mirrors so counteracts it's out IMO. Still the opinion stands at the EP3 or Ep3 championship White edition or something abit rarer the DC5 Intergra Type R.

The FN2 I drove, had a reversing camera. You'd have to be a total Joey to not be able to park it
.
Indeed, I remember being a passenger in an FN2 witnessing the driver pull off the most incredible feat of parking I've ever seen, on a ridiculous incline in a stupidly small space in a back alleyway off Westgate Road in Newcastle Upon Tyne. And that was without a camera...so it just takes a bit of getting used to! I have to admit that although the spoiler on the rear window often crosses the area where another car would be, sitting behind you, it's not hard to get used to either.
.My old housemate had an 08 CTR while I had my 05 STi. We swapped keys for a bit - I did quite like it, it has loads of toys (not sure how it compares to the new Imprezas as they've come a long way in terms of ICE) and when VTAK YO kicks in it's a really nice sound. Does need to be thrashed to go anywhere, though.
One nice little feature is that the bottom rear screen is plastic and doesn't freeze up when it's icy - and there's also space under the rear bench to store boxes etc. Clever design.

I went from an EP3 Civic Type-R ('03 plate) to a '54-plate (blobeye) Impreza WRX.
I can't understand why you'd want a Civic over an Impreza!!
The old Civic Type R is better looking (imo) and generally regarded by most as a much better drive than the new one. The old one is, I believe, lighter and used independant rear suspension rather than a cheaper, inferior torsion beam setup. The new Civic Type Rs look ok, but don't sound amazing unless you are pushing on and probably won't put as much of a grin on your face as the older EP3 models.I can't understand why you'd want a Civic over an Impreza!!
That said, I don't think I'd want a Civic if I owned an Impreza, but sometimes it's good to have a change.
Ive had a classic Turbo and a Bug eye with a Prodrive pack, aswell as an EK9 type R and currently have a Prelude 2.2 VTI (My 4th).
I love the grip of the Scoobys, the later shapes are definatley better than the original although I think standard the body rolls too much and the brakes are not up to hard driving.
The VTECs do need to be ragged to get anywhere and a Type R Civic isnt as fast as the Subarus, but my experience the handling of the 2 types of Hondas I have owned is better than the Subarus so i would expect the Civic type r to be no different.
The build quality of the new Civic is better than the Subaru too, and the interior is fantastic. I cant see how anyone would prefer the EP3 breadvan to that even if it does handle "slightly" better.
Drive it, but in all honesty I couldnt justify paying much difference to change because its not really a big enough step up.
