A) As long as it was older than 1996 and I had another car (I do) am i right in thinking i could find someone to insure a Eunos as a classic? i.e. for not much money.

B) if the above car were modified would i be able to find someone to insure it as a modified classic?
i.e. for not much money.

Is it not worth getting the numbers for a few classic insurers and asking them? wink

as a second car so 'proper classic' insurance where you get no NCB etc but it costs you 200 quid not 800 sort of thing?

Just waiting to see if this is possible, for educational purposes you understand.

I'm not sure age in itself has all that much to do with it. Insurers are often more interested to know whether the car is "cherished" and how it will be used. For instance,

6 year old car - good postcode - garaged - not used for commuting - 5,000 miles a year - cheap insurance.

15 year old car - bad postcode - street parking - commuting - 15,000 miles a year - expensive insurance.

My experience is that as long as you own another car for everyday use (i.e. on a 'normal' policy) you can get cherished insurance on pretty much anything, age doesn't matter too much. My XJR was only 12 years old when I had that on a 'classic' policy. Try Peter Best, or just type it into confused, they have a check box for 'have use of another car'.

Yes, good point. Should be added to my list above.

I have a 1996 MX5 insured with a company called Hagarty.

Must have a daily driver
Photos required for valuation
Limited annual miles - I went for 3,000 which is about rioght for me
Secure storage / parking

Can't remember the actual premium, but I get change from £200 p/a and that includes full breakdown and 90days euro cover.

Regarding NCD, IIRC they ask what it is on my daily driver, but I do not get or earn one on the MX5. The price is the price (but seems to stay flat-ish each year)

I've got my main car insured through Admiral and the Roadster through the owners club. Not sure about the NCB thing, but I think I pay around £400 a year. I'll have to verify all that though.
