Mine, a couple of nights ago, I was following a bus, there was a mk 5 Golf behind me. Well, I say behind me, I think he was trying to test the capacity of my boot, seeing if it is possible to put a medium-sized VAG inside a Panda. It probably isn't, I was starting to get a little irked by his insistence that it might, if only he could get a bit closer.

Anyway, the bus indicated left and pulled over at a stop. There was a traffic island to the right of the bus. Not much of a gap between the bus and the traffic island, but I feel I can squeeze in and get past. So I do.

So does the Golf... except he stopped suddenly.

A smashed bumper later and possibly the ruination of the front right wheel and suspension, I hope the driver has learnt not to follow other cars so closely.

I took no pleasure from his crash but I did think "yes, I have bought the right car!"

It's a joyful thing to run, cheap and a laugh to drive but it was conceived as a city car and that's where it works so perfectly.

When I first picked the car up and happened to drive through a narrow country lane with trees either side creating a nice acoustic.

With the supercharger my car sounded like a WW2 fighter plane.

To be honest, I'm seldom disappointed in cars. Granted I have no exotica in my history, but each car has been bought with a purpose, and they'd done very well indeed. Maybe I have simple tastes.

I knew as soon as I test drove my MX5 I had to have it. When I handed the cash over and cruised home in it, along some nice B roads through the countryside, I was very pleased. I knew I'd picked the right car. And it still makes me smile every day. No distractions, just a pure connection with the car.

No, honestly, I'm not happy he crashed. I was happy that I could squeeze through a gap that foiled a car that could hardly be described as being too big for city living.
