Tyre inflation kit

Just wondering if this is now the norm. looking at the spec for new cars (renault), it appears that they come with a 'tyre inflation kit' which is one of those cigarette lighter operated compressors and a tube of tyre weld. if you want a spare, its an extra £50. is this normal practice now? I would feel a bit uneasy about not having an actual spare tyre in the car so will likely pay the extra anyway, but thought it strange that a spare wheel is no longer considered standard kit.

Yes, it's increasingly common. You usually either car a space saver or a can of tyre weld as standard.

It is pretty much normal practice now, all in an effort to reduce weights/costs and increase economy. Technically it is safer too as you don't have to mess about jacking the car up etc.
