Happens every year to me. Hit the screenscrapers (confused.com et al) and get the premium back down most of the way. Then either buy it from the cheaper company or haggle with your current insurer to better the price.

Make sure you're quoting like for like (ie check the excess, legal cover, hire car cover etc)

Thats retarded

Have you thought about calling them? The 'customer loyalty' department or whatever they call it there might be able to knock it back down to a sensible amount.

If not, I have always found admiral very cheap. I did have a claim with them in the past too and they were ok to deal with.

It's a renewal, they'll try and rape your wallet. Phone around, it'll come down.

Get a fresh quote from confused.com. My insurer hiked my premium by £450.00 at renewal time. I got a fresh quote on line for just £350.00 (versus their price of £800) and they price matched it as it was a sister company (Admiral and Elephant)!

Insurance is on the up again. Phone various insurers and you'll get a whole host of "reasons"...

Try Aviva - if you fit their profile, they'll be very cheap due to their 12 weeks free promotion.

But they don't appear on comparison sites, so you'll have to go to their website direct.

My Volvo diesel has just crept up to £500 again, although I am only 42.

I got £1600 lumped onto my renewal....

Ended up with Direct Line as they are doing the "2 months free" for new customers deal. Even then, my premium is higher than it was last year... I think Aviva are doing the same kind of deal. Just have to shop around!

That sounds about right to me to be honest. Inflation is high at the moment and insurance prices have risen considerably, even in real terms.

My renewal with Diamond two weeks ago wasn't increased (high ins. group car).

I still shopped around for something better and nobody could get anywhere close to my renewal price!

As mentioned, get hunting for a better price then tell your insurance company, most of the time they will match or beat what you find.

I always find this unusual. I have been with Admiral for nearly 5 years now and every year the price has dropped, at present I pay £280 a year FC on a 2.0 Petrol Ford Focus at 25 years old. Seems like a good deal to me. I always shop about but no one ever comes close to Admirals renewal price.

As has been suggested that is a crazy amount for your renewal to go up by. I'd ring the insurance company your currently with a ask why it has risen by such a large amount, if they refuse to lower the price to a more reasonable amount make sure you say your cancelling your renewal and will be going somewhere else. You will find a cheaper price somewhere else.

I had this happen to my renewal this year, took the policy out for £413 for a NA mk4 supra. My renewal came in at £894!!!! Rang them up to have ago at them hiking it up. The response I got was very pleasing. They used the default underwriting process which hikes up the premiums. The helpful salesperson then put mine through and got it back down to the 400's. Might be worth a shot at speaking to them about your underwriting process?

either way good luck and hope you get a better price!

My insurance almost doubled on my BMW 318 despite another claim free year so called company who adopted the attitude 'take it or leave' as we dont really care.

Did some surfing as you do & found insurance for £80.00 less than last years renewal with better quality cover so needless to say i made the move.

Old insurer not bothered in the slightest & they refused to price match even though there web-site said they would so moved to new insurer who couldnt have been more helpful.

New insurer's are RIAS just in case anyone is interested.

Think yourselves luck you can shop around!

In Lux we only have about 5 insurers to choose from, and they're all about the same price.
I'm 40, full NCD driving a 2.5T S-Max = €1,800 p.a.
I think I'd pay <£500 in the UK
