Why do manufacturers use these fking things instead of nice, easy, tried and tested jubilee clips.

Spent 2+ hours trying to get one of these off today. Its now twisted, mangled, bent, i was covered in coolant and my clothes were soaking.

It's fighting until the end.

I hate them.

I use a set of mole grips set to lock at the point the clip is fully open. I agree they're not the easiest clip to use but not too bad once you have the nack.

Yep. Pretty simple when you've done a couple.

Would still rather they used jubilees though.

Sadly they and their abominable cousins the wire ones are cheaper and quicker to fit than a proper Jubilee clip. So long as they don't leak why should the car manufacturer care a damn?

I like them, they can expand & contract with temperature, minimising the risk of crushing the pipe it's holding on.

Plus, you don't have to fanny around for ages trying to get a jubilee clip off that's rounded it's screw head.

how are those style clips released?

by increasing the clip size, usually by pulling the tabs toward each other.

how else?

by fitting the useless pieces of st on a boos hose, which expands itself and the clip with it. s.

I like these more than Jubly's

Little tip is to spray the hose with WD40 (other penetrating liquids are available) then it will slip off nice and easy if it's a bit tight.

I like them too. Hate jubilee clips, far too easy to strip the thread on them and then they are useless. At least you know the sprung ones will be tight enough. You do need to be careful not to spin them round so one of the ears isn't against the engine block or something because then you can't get mole grips in...

My favourite are the wire ones with a bolt and nut. They come off completely so you don't need to remove the hose to replace them, they are strong, and you can't strip the bolt

Now if I could only work out where to buy them...

Those clips are only crap if they are positioned so you cant get any tool on to move them. I seem to have developed a skill of managing to dig them under my thumb nails when trying to remove.

Never had an issue with these, set of water pump pliers seems to do the trick well enough.

Just be thankful that cars don't use stupid pushfit connections and fiddly securing clips that boiler manufacturers use. Satan ain't got st on Saunier Duval!

I don't have a problem removing them using a pair of long nosed mole grips, but 90% of the time they won't reseal/retension properly and the hose ends up weeping after a while.

Even with the remote tool thing I still spent about about an hour in the diseasel-ed engine bay of an old 306 removing one of these from an oil cooler hose. bd things.

they are quite easy with the propper tool but the smaller ones are still a pain in the arse to closr enough the best wsy i fing is to sqeeze them and pill the hose off IF it isnt welded to the bloody pipe that is

Never have a problem with hose clips myself.
Electrical plugs on cars now that's a different matter.
Do I

a) squeeze then pull
b) press up the tab then pull
c) pull the tab out then pull
d) stick screwdriver under the tab then pull
e) all of the above, then get big pliers pull hard and only work out what I should have done by examining all the broken bits.
