Super car vs Race car

Just wondering what type of race car would put in a similar lap time to a Veyron round somewhere like Silverstone?

Would it be a BTCC car, LMP1, Formula Renault etc?

Veyron on road tyres.

Anyone one know what would be comparable?

Silverstone has a lot of long straights, plenty of room for the Veyron to do its party piece.

Exactly. Just see the Veyron coming out of Becketts and showing it's HP then losing out in the corners.

I think a 2litre single seat race car would comfortably see off even a Veyron.

Pretty sure I've seen a video of a Veyron and an Elise and the Elise is pretty much on it's tail all the time (not very many straight sections iirc)

However, that may have been a casual drive in the Veyron, give it to a racing driver and it may be different!

Isn't a renault 2000 single seater about 500bhp/tonne? Same as the veyron!

If the 2l wouldn't do it then a formula renault 3.5 happily would.

Once I'd driven a Formula Ford 2000 on slicks there was absolutely no point driving any road car on any circuit again. Fantastic experience!

A formula ford is easily quicker than most supercars over a lap of a circuit, so I would guess at a formula renault beating a veyron.

on GT5 my zonda r laps 2 seconds quicker than my bugatti, can't remember the track name but its mainly long straights and an easy way to make money

Its a 2 tonne car specifically designed to be the fastest car in a straight line and yet to be very comfortable. It was never designed to blitz tracks.


In fact, didnt the caterham R500 on semi slicks destroy the Veyron's time around the top gear test track? Granted the caterham isn't a race car but its the closest road car equivalent (IMO)

Tyres I guess would be the big difference. On slicks a Veyron would probably murder everything.

It still weighs 2 tonnes! 500 bhp/tonne isn't particularly impressive in a race car!

Any "downforce" race car would anihilate it, but assuming wings are off the menu, then i suspect something like a BTCC car has a similar "lap time" but would stuggle to overtake the Veyron (Veyron just holds up btcc car in twisty bits, but then f-offs down the straights)

I was just reading that thinking you lucky b***rd, that's what I'll be doing when I win the Euromillions next weekend, but then I saw the bit in bold.....

Let's face it, the Veyron doesn't even come top of the Top Gear lap times*
