Some idiot BMW driver making indicator signals at me

Oh the irony of it, particularly as I was also in a BMW

Approached a roundabout heading for exit 2 straight ahead, quite a bit of traffic. I selected the left lane to go straight on, no indicator on approach and then left indicator on passing exit 1. Some plonker in a 5 series is leaving exit 1 and slams on the brakes making "indicator" signs at me as he realizes I'm going straight on.

Now, what did he exactly expect in terms of indicator from someone going straight on who hasn't yet got to his exit?

This is useless unless we know where the 5er was coming from.

From exit 1, as indicated above. I approached from 6 o'clock aiming to leave at 12 o'clock and idiot BMW driver was approaching from 9 o'clock. He was expecting me to leave at 9 o'clock but since I had no indicator on, why assume that?

Was the chap of foreign origin? I ask this as back in Bangladesh, if a driver is at a crossroad/roundabout etc and is going straight on, they put their hazards on. This signifies that you're not going left nor right. Perhaps the 5er driver had a brain fart or forgot the UK style of driving.

You should be indicating right around the island, then left as you pass the first exit.

Only two reasons I can think of for his actions:

• He wasn't paying attention so didn't notice which direction you came from and thought you'd come from 3 o'clock.

or

• He is one of the strange few people you see who indicate right even when going straight on.

I was taught that on my driving lessons many years ago. I still do it to this day, in my bmw

Sometimes I will indicate right if I'm going straight on, but it does depend on the roundabout & the circumstances.

Certainly doesn't save confusion to the person beside you in the outide lane turning right! You've probably caused a lot of people to stamp on the brakes when they think you're moving across to their lane.

Well there's another thing. I'm very very rarely beside anyone on a roundabout because of people who find it difficult to stay in lanes, if I am it will be a big roundabout with more than two lanes, traffic lights etc.
