Many thanks to those that replied with advice and opinions on the Smart fortwo car.
I collected my daughters for her today, and had a good play with it on the way back, and before she got home from work.
What a fantastic little car, this must be one of the best kept small car secrets.
I'd never have considered suggesting the Smart fortwo to anyone.
They should have called it the Smart Tardis, it is so spacious and comfortable, then when you get out you think "where's it gone" ?
It isn't a motorway car by any stretch of the imagination, but it's as stable as all other small cars I've driven, including my wifes previous car, a Kia Picanto. It actually does accelaration better than that did, with its 600 cc turbocharged & intercooled engine.
At tickover it sounds like a lawnmower, once you start driving it sounds like a racing car.
The gearbox is odd, and the centrifugal clutch takes a few minutes to get used to, it also seems to be in a permanent sports mode, and takes longer to change gear (gets to higher revs) than I'd have expected.
It may look odd and pathetic from the outside, but whilst you're driving it, it's anything but.
I can forsee my daughter having a lot of fun with it.
From this particular "it isn't worth driving unless it has a BMW badge and a least a straight six engine" type of bloke, it gets 8/10 !
