3k Daily Driver??? Help!

Following a prang I have 3k (ish) to spend on a daily driver.
MPG and comfort important (55 miles a day).
Preferably less than 6-7yrs old.
Fun not that important as TVR covers the smiles miles.
All advice welcome!
What willI get for the cash?

I may be in the same position as you unless by some miracle Osbourne reduces fuel duty by half and I can justify doing 400+ miles per week in my present commuter (E36 318is).

I can't decide between a small petrol or medium size diesel. Considering my commute is fast A roads and the A1 being able to overtake in safety is a must so I am going in the diesel direction.

These are a few I have thought of..

Polo TDi
Golf TDi
Leon
Fabia
Focus 1.8/2.0TDCi
Alfa 147
Fiesta 1.4TDCi

See if you can find a Lexus LS400 or Lexus/Toyota Soarer running on LPG. That way comfort, reliability and good pence per mile costs too.

Jag X-type on 93k miles, comfortable, plenty of overtakability, looks like you should get > 40mpg.

I'd steer clear of a smaller Ford diesel: 1.8 TDCI Focus I've been in wasn't very refined on a motorway, and all of the Fiestas I know of are heaps of sh...

VAG diesels seem to get a good shout on here.

A bigger Ford with a grand to spare for a holiday?

Late model Nissan Almera 2.2 dci? Decent enough car if nothing sparkling as standard. Solid and reliable transport with decent overtaking if you get the 130bhp one.

Have you tried autotrader, you can just put in age, diesel, saloon/estate and browse for an hour, making shortlists of models that catch your eye, then look on PH/ebay/exchangeandmart/the many other car advertising sources at the models you shortlisted!

3k, 7 years old, you will have bucket loads of choice!

I just bought this for £3k 2 months ago, 44mpg 5 cylinder so it sounds ok for a diesel and is fast enough for a daily.

corsa you can get a 06 reg if you look about alot 1.4 is better on fuel than the 1.2 and cruises better
