A what (hardtop) convertible thread..

Are there any other sports cars with a convertible hardtop apart from the Mercedes SL AMG?

A friend is looking to purchase a new car. It has to be a convertible.

I've suggested an R8 Spyder or the AMG, though the current topdog is looking like the AM Vantage Roadster (I know these aren't hardtop convertibles).

Any alternatives? They need to be on a similar level to the current list.

Can you get the 335d, mapped of course, as a convertible?

If the AM V8 is an option then that opens up the other soft top cars which potentially means an M6 is a possibility. Maybe a 911 or Jag XKR - or whatever they are called.

I'd get the Aston though.

Hard for me to come up with suggestions, as I wouldn't have a convertible so don't have a clue what does or doesn't come as one!

Porsches have been ruled out - unless the panamera(sp?) comes as a convert

The car needs to be fairly new (less than 1 year) and something which draws a bit of attention.

Correct - though it's looking like the 'hardtop' range is somewhat very limited to Mercedes (they already have the 3.5 SL) or the peugeots/renaults which aren't suitable to the requirement
