I've read on here that kit cars are often cheaper to Insure than a normal road car? I thought they'd be more tbh as they offer more performance..
I'm only 19, been driving about 18 months and am struggling to find anything with reasonable pace that is affordable Insurance wise! frown

That might be the case in 20 years time when you have a daily drive as well.
Just build up a few years no claims ......... The insuance won't be cheaper but your salary will be more!

Kit cars crash less, therefore cheap insurance.

You'll need to go through a specialist, some won't give you no claims bonus or they can put a mileage restriction on (others won't, though).

Kind of still the case - in a lot of cases there's owners club discounts with many insurers. The problem with some (not all) of the policies is that they dont offer a no claims discount, and you may not acrue a no-claims if you run a policy for a few years.

If you've got at least 1-year's no-claims, you ought to find favour with the specialists. Try:

MSM (my favourite by far), Footman James, Adrian Flux, A-plan (not strictly kits cars but excellent for performance cars)...

COMPLETELY IGNORE any of the major advertisers or search engines. Waste of time/effort.

The Caterham was my first car (but not until age 23) and the insurance was significantly cheaper for the performance than any "normal" car - it was about £1k for the first year (single male, no insurance history, parked on the street in north London N5).

OP - A problem you might have is age as many classic policies only insure over 21s. Two companies to try would be Adrian Flux and MSM.

If you are ok with spanner, some kit car insurers offer 3rd party, Fire Theft & parts. Which is cheaper than fully comp as you may be able to do the repairs in the vent of an accident.

FWIW, at 18 my car cost £1100 to insure this year (Comprehensive, 12000 miles inc. commuting PA IIRC and kept on the drive), whereas a Caterham 1.8 K-Series was around £700 (Comprehensive, 6000 miles PA inc. occasional commuting and kept in a garage).

A lot of kit car specialists wouldn't quote for me online because of my age, I'd ring them if I were you.

Unfortunately it wasn't a practical choice for me as for at least 6 months of the year I'll be doing a 25 mile each way motorway commute (Though the other half is a 13 mile B-road jaunt! driving)
