window winder mechanisms

Not sure where to put this, but one of our windwo winder mechanisms seems to have fallen apart.
I have spent half a day sweating blood, and tears over trying to sort it out to no avail!
What's the secret to getting all the wires over all the little pulleys in a way that they don't then just jump off when you operate the switch?!
Been doing my head in, and I am now officially tired of having the window held up with gaffer tape (which keeps letting go and making the window slide down of its own accord)
Is it worth having another go, or is one of those jobs where I just shove it at someone who knows what they're doing?!

You'll need to buy what's called a window regulator, which is basically the entire unit that you bold in with 4 bolts. Depends what car it is, but you should be able to see some bolts in the door, and feel up to two clamps that hold the window in place. These are a ten minute (if a little tricky) job to replace, and can be bought for most cars for about 80 pounds.

Yeah, the cables snap over time. You can fix them with bicycle brake cable if you're feeling really brave, but you'll be contemplating hanging yourself after about half an hour Ta for the info

Anyway, this is what they look like, note that it comes with the electric motor hence the steep aftermarket price.
Maybe have a hunt round scrapyards too, but it sounds like you're at the end of your tether to be honest

If they do, then scrapyard is THE way to go, we did it for several pieces on an old renault, they cost pennies and the other upside is that you get a chance to unmount it on a "testcar", so that you'll have a much better idea on how to mount it on your own car.
People often seem to forget about scrapyards these days, my friend had an old senator/omega (can't remember), he found a scrapyard that had one with leather seats in very good condition. He went to get the seats, placed them in his car. The scrapyard asked £150 pocket money
. The only thing he couldn't connect was the heated seats. Which was a shame
