Car wheel size firsts?

Hopefully an interesting question - One that's been bugging me for a while

What were the first cars to be made available with 16", 17", 18" & 19" wheels?

I seem to remember something about the Escort Cosworth being the first car available with 16" wheels. No idea about the other sizes though, maybe some kind of Aston Martin for 17"?

The first car I saw with 19 inch wheels was a RUF Porsche in 1997

I think you'll find that most car wheels started off as very large and got progressivley smaller as tyres and suspension improved, before increasing again from 13-14"

I remember when Alpina launched a 20" wheel for the 7-series in the early 90's - 1994 I think it was.

Model T Ford had 21" wheels, nothing new......

Yep you need to look at vintage cars

However assuming you mean something more modern. Do you mean production vehicles and stock setups?

Land Rovers have had 16"'wheels since 1948 however I suspect they weren't the first. Also are you meaning anything in the world or just UK Market?

Nothing new no, but when was the last time they were fitted after Model T's and vintage Rolls-Royces and such?

1932 Bugatti Type 41 Royale had 24'' Wheels. It had Tire size 6.75 x 36 as well.

My 1932 austin seven special has 17" wheels standard was 19" though. I ma sure blower bentley's had quite big wheels as well.

Tbh, our wedding car was a Ferrari 612, was hard to not tell her where the name comes from

For the purposes of the conversation, wheels on cars that came from the factory fitted with radial tyres?

Sounds fine to me. Early middish 70's radials become more the norm wasn't it?
