little plastic fence things??

Can any one answer a question that has puzzled me for ages? I do a fair bit of motorway mileage and have noticed on many occasions there are little fences put up on the embankments, they are made of little wooden posts and then polythene is stretched between them, I cannot for the life of me work out why they suddenly appear or for what purpose??? Anyone else know?

polythene to stop rabbits etc. eating it?

They have these in the NY state. As far as I know they are supposed to stop snowdrifts going onto the road, but I could have been informed completely wrong, as it was my sis, and she is renowned for being quite stupid.

not sure it is this as thinking about it they seem to appear shortly before roadworks seem to start?

In NY maybe but not a huge call for them in the south of England..

I think I know what you're on about, when I was at school we supposedly had a few breeding pairs of great crested newts, and being endangered we had to have a similar thing put up to ensure that the newts were able to get out of the proposed building site for the new gym but not get back in.





However there's always a chance I may be talking bks

its somthing to stop the wildlife, in the case of a road local to me a rare lizard, straying onto the road during alterations being carried out to it. Shame really as the polythene barrier looks awefull.

Yep, they are newty things.

It works like this, someone wants to build a road, and a team of crack nimbys say that it won't work, isn't needed, and will cause hell to spill out and walk the surface of the earth.

That's usually thrown out after stalling proceedings for 6 months.

When they want another 6 months, they'll all see thousands of newts everywhere and try an get it to be an ecological disaster.

The newt fences will go up, and after a while, they'll be able to declare an area newt free, and able to be built on.
