Best looking roadsters for less than £10k

I'm looking for a base car for my project.

Modern or old, It has to be a roadster, It has to be affordable, so no rare Ferraris, Porsches etc. It HAS to be pretty and it has to have room for a V8 under the bonnet.

What would you get? (with pics please)

I think my vx220 is fairly good looking, you can get them for a good bit less than 10k and i am aware someone has fitted a v8 to one previously.

what about a bmw z4, with an m5 v8 e39 engine in? that would be sweet!

mine does not have a v8 but i am sure if you got the time and skill, would make a very fast/fun car.

Yes, the Mk2 MX5 is a good one. Beautiful curves at the front, lovely low profile from the side and a rear end that reminds me of TVR. The interior styling is also very well done, very compact and clearly Japanese. They probably intended for it to look fun, instead it looks extremely functional but also very stylish in a "not trying too hard" kind of way.

How about a 944 cab quite a few converted to a v8 so should be info out there on how to do it and should get one for half your budget.

The Z3 looks great in red, in silver/black though it seems to disappear a bit. Shame about the awful teal green colours too!

V6 Alfa Spider 916 - the wedge version (see my profile pic!) Biased opinion of course!

Otherwise, agree with the Chimaera idea. Lovely looking cars and a potential spider replacement next year. Or a boxster. Nope, the Chimaera. Boxster's more practical. TVR's quicker. Boxster is more reliable. TVR looks better. Boxster handles better. Chimaera sounds better. Fuel is £6 a gallon, go for the Boxster. fk it, I'll stick with the Alfa until I make up my mind.

Or a more suitable choice will be S2000 - with tastefull rear spoiler, lowered just a bit with some nice subtle wheels - no scuttle shake with one of these, not much room for a v8 though.

I always giggle like a small child when I see a chevvy LS under the bonnet of a MX5...
