Another lottery induced thread…(sorry)

……thought I would throw this open to the PH collective. A few of us in the office have been discussing the following; thinking about the chap who bought two new 1980's BMW M3's for when his young children grew up (pretty sure I saw a thread about it on here). If you had kids and were to win tonight's lottery jackpot, what one car would you buy to put away today to handover to your child at some point in the future?

Only two rules are:

1)You can't select more than one car; assuming the kid(s) is now about 1 yr old, this car will have to remain (largely unused) at the back of your (probably vast) garage for the next 16 or so years; so you are handing over what is effectively a brand new classic.

2) It must be bought from the year they were born i.e. be on sale new today.

So in essence the question is this: What 'new' car would you put away today for your child's future, that would mean in 16 years time, (when the time came to handover the keys) you were handing over the keys to a classic and something they would not be embarrassed to own /drive?

Of course you may well have to keep it longer than 16yrs if you are giving them something performance related, as you might not trust them to drive it until they are a little older /wiser / more experienced.

Me, I think I would avoid the obvious super car moth balling and try and find something that would be cool however old it got and they could actually use on a daily basis without worrying about ruining it; so I'd go for a Porsche Boxster Spyder (In Silver). Think it would be pushing 20yrs old by the time they got their mits on it though.

Interesting topic, I have not seen the thread about the 2 M3's.

This has really got me thinking, originally I would have automatically said Mercedes E classe Cabriolet but I can't see that being the futures w111/w124....

mp4-12c, no question. first model year car with delivery miles would be a worthwhile thing to put away.

if i had two kids, the other would get a kia picanto. both cars would be sealed away, eldest gets the mclaren, youngest the kia. purely for my amusement on the second reveal.

A lambo, either there new one or one of the newest Lp640 convertables I can lay my hands on....although the chances of it remaining untouched are about as slim as my chances of winning the euro millions.

I don't understand these threads, no of us are going to win are we. Apart from the guy down the road who won £7m. Ooops. And has a Cayman, Merc 4x4, Merc coupe diesel thingy and a new X5. Oh bugger you have me at it now!
