Cheap to run great handling fun car

I'm not earning much money because I'm on an apprenticeship and my Ignis Sport is breaking me its costing way too much to run in every way so I'm planning on selling it for something with low insurance (I mean very low), low fuel costs, decent reliability and above all great fun handling

so what are my options, at the moment max budget is about £3500 but could save if needed, I don't really want anything earlier than about year 2000 and none diesel please

Could you get a mk6 Fiesta Zetec S for that money?

Corsa C SRi could be had for around 3k but you'll need to spend a bit to get the handling right, they are a bit boaty standard

Those two will still be too expensive to run, it will have to be 1.0, 1.2, max 1.4

Its my first car and as a result insurance is nearly £2500 and it needs to use 98 ron petrol well it can use standard 95 ron but it runs rough with it, and I don't exactly drive economically, no reason having a mildly quick car if I did

My sisters got one, they're surprisingly fun actually. Great to chuck around and still get 50mpg.

They are very light but have bike wheels so you can have fun at legal speeds.

Personally, for the driving enjoyment on a budget I would be looking to a classic car rather than a luke warm Euro Clone box.

Cheap tax (if not free) cheap bits, cheap insurance, and if you don't go mad probably zero depreciation loss on resale.

Most modern cars leave me feeling very numb unless you really push it, which you really don't want to be doing on a public road, whereas a classic feels faster than it is.

Being serious the cost to change is going to be more than trying to save a bit of money on chopping your Suzuki Ignis in to get higher mpg. Try hyper-miling and maintaining momentum, as I doubt you will get as good a car as you already have, with the option of a hoon if you are more flush, although insurance is probably more of a problem.

As to insurance, you probably need to go on one of those comparison websites and change the car to see the most cost effective for you.
