Someone came to test drive our Car today...

Two people came to test drive our car today.
The last one turned up proclaiming to know everything about Skodas as she already has one, apart from being rude and obnoxious she insisted on driving first.
I suggested that my I would drive first and then we could swap over up the road as the car was parked on a hill between two cars, So any way she went first as she has been driving for over 20 years and knows what she is doing (or so she said).
After nearly plowing the car into the back of a people carrier a couple of times she jumped out and let my OH take over.
So they swapped over once she had driven about 300 yards and did a little route, now I think her Skoda must be automatic as she seemed to be waiting for the to shift up, anyway after what felt like 20.000rpm she then attempted to do a Clutchless gearchange!
Now it really kicked off, she then started to tell us how the clutch must be broken(it probably is now!) and that after she drove over a speed bump at 50mph that the car is quite uncomfortable?!
Then the lady asked us why we are selling the car, we said its because we are moving to Ireland, She started harping on about the Catholics and Protestants!
Really, are they all like this?

The majority, yes. Shows how horrificly painful it is selling cars privately by the fact that there are car dealers everywhere, a fair proportion of them complete liars/fantasists/rip off merchants/negligient/lazy/rude and yet they still stay in business and turn a healthy profit 
This one guy turned up who was blatantly a dealer and walked round my car slating it to hell saying he wouldnt take it etc etc offering me a crap price for it aswell. I literally felt like a criminal, he was also really rude and didn't trust me at all for some reason (im a complete softy and answered all his questions), he then revved the crap out of it and told me my gearbox was broken.
I hate selling cars. Im dreading selling my Eunos at the end of Summer so if any of you want a tidy, fettled Mark 1 1.8 Roadster for circa £2000 then by all means give me a call. Fed up of people not actually treating the seller like a human!!

I know there are 101 bad stories about eBay but I've used it to sell my cars over the past 7-8 years and I've not once had a problem, I always take loads of photo's, give lots of info in the ad and insist on a deposit at auction end.
It gets rid of all the tyre kickers, non showing viewers and wannabe race driver test pilots!
Having said that it never ceases to amaze me the number of people who buy cars unseen.

I'm not a car dealer (and not associated with any at all), but I felt I had to comment on this statement.At the end of the day, a used car dealer will only sell what he/she buys / trades in.
And why do the vast majority of people part exchange their car? Usually because there is something wrong with it...
Do they tell the dealer about any faults? No.
Are many of the faults immediately obvious to the dealer? No, usually not.
So the dealer takes a car as a p/x in good faith, but still has to sell it on at a profit.
If you buy such a car from a dealer, you feel ripped off - but in reality it's not always the dealer that has ripped you off - it's the previous owner of the car to blame!
On the other hand though, some people are good to deal with.
When I sold my C2, they called mid week to arrange a drive.. Text in the morning to make sure it was still ok. Arrived, there was 3 of them, just me on my own but was fine. Her boyfriend drove the car, I just sat in the back directing them and explaining about the car, got home and they got out the cash and job done.

It's not necessarily the 'being ripped off' part of the customer/dealer relationship that annoys me, as they offer a price to change and it is your choice whether to deal or walk - many, many times I've walked, no issues with that at all.At the end of the day, a used car dealer will only sell what he/she buys / trades in.

However in the past I have been to see cars at dealers with some of the following issues:
- Brakes so deficient they barely worked, very very dangerous, just glad I had opportunity to test them early on rather than them being needed in a dangerous situation.
- Viewing a car with blue smoke billowing from the exhaust to be told its just because its running a bit lean(!)
- Various times being blatantly lied to about the FSH the car has (on later inspection of the docs)
- Some problems being covered over in an attempt to get rid of the car - Engine management lights reset, ABS bulbs taken out etc.
- Saying they will service car then don't
- Stating the car is HPI clear, after some advice from a friendly police officer I checked this and it wasn't, dealer acted surprised etc.
- Cars not ready when meant to be and absolute reluctance to offer petrol money etc as recompense after wasted journey.
