Monbiot always moans about someting. Basically if you go to work, earn money, and produce a co2 on a cellulare level, than he don't like it.
My favourie way of dealing with the nutcases like him is this...
When they start talking crap... daydream, preferably about driving a TVR around the evo triangle or summat.

Do these bloggers go through some kind of mental-annealing process that turns their opinion to fact?
He sounds like some kind of priest preaching to his converted flock.
I am fairly certain that it's not speeding per-se that uses the majority of fuel, it's acceleration.
I suggest we introduce a ban, and enforce it, on traffic jams as that is where the most stopping and starting takes place and the lowest MPG ratings are produced by most cars.
Even if we do manage to economise by slowing down it will just shift the petrol price tolerance threshold up a little, before people can no longer afford to get to work and all the tax, VAT and VED shortfall will have to be found from elsewhere. Although it does sort of make sense that if we use less, we don't need to buy as much in, from what I understand the oil co.s' supply is agreed way in advance so this would take a very long time to take any real effect.
Pricing people out of their cars will work far more effectively.
I should have just spent half an hour tweaking the jets the MG's HS2s instead of thinking about what this twit thinks... too late now.

Certainly on m-ways, speed limits are now redundant.
For the vast proportion of of daily commuting/distribution, the clogging of these motoring arteries resulting from Britains 80M souls imposes its own, natural limit, of about 55-60 mph (c/o non-existant lane discipline, ignorance of the two second rule/zero speed-distance judgement and endemic MLMism.)
Quite frankly, I came in ce matin and for about 2 miles, may have suffered a slight speedo malfunction.
However, given the purgatory of the last five days, I don't know an officer in Christendom who wouldn't confirm the validity of the weekend schnelling peerage in such circumstances.
This chump is just background noise; politically, he's as significant to national affairs as the rancorous sow, formerly from some girl band who's always making comebacks.

No, but he has a wide audience of ecofreaks who, together, are able to influence policy.Just check the names of organisations and individuals who gave evidence to the Commons Transport Select Committee, that led to new guidelines for setting speed limits that now give us reduced 50, 40, 30 and 20 limits where they are not appropriate.
