Just Sold A Car on EBay...

...and since the end of the auction (2pm today) have heard nothing from the winning bidder.

An hour ago I got a text from someone saying they'd missed the deadline and would match the winning bid.

How long should I give the winning bidder to make contact?

I am thinking 48 hours - I have mailed him an invoice and tried the landline number on his EBay account (no answer).

On slightly more helpful, but it reeally can vary...I'd wait till Monday evening. They could have auto-bidding set up and be out and about.

email the other guy and tell him if the buyer takes too long to respond he can take it..

You an start an unpaid item thing after 4 days. This will get you your fees back. I belive until then you are still contracted to sell to them.

I'd give them a bit longer than 4/5 hours, especially on a Sunday. As someone said, could have auto-bidding set up and are away from the computer or whatever and don't know they've won yet.

There's a minimum amount of time to wait before opening an unpaid dispute case, so wait for that time to be up, open the dispute and let the other guy have it, but I wouldn't be worrying just yet!

Has the winner got decent feedback?
Did he just bid before the close?
If it's yes to q1 and no to q2 then I wouldn't be worrying.
A day or so would be normal I'd have said.

Give them a couple of days, tell the other guy this and that he'll have to wait.

It has been known for the winning bidder to never make contact and someone kindly offer less than the final price 'to save you the bother of relisting'.

You see the scam here don't you?

This is the problem with ebay these days, riddled with time-wasters.

If you want to cancel the transaction (and get your final valuation fee back) you have to wait 3-4 days for a responce, then 7 days for the buyer to respond to your non payment claim. After that, ebay credit your account the £30 fee.

Ebay is good for getting interest, try not to let it sell through ebay. Always deal outside instead.

I would wait a while, not everybody has the chance to watch the auction live. I auctioned a set of golf clubs and the buyer never got back to me for 5 days. It turned out he had bid on is Blackberry while on holiday in Spain. He couldn't pay through his phone. It all turned out good.

IMO if you're selling on ebay it's best to state in the ad' that successful bidder must pay a non-returnable deposit of £x00 within 24/48 hours of the auction closing. Sorts the men from the boys.

had the same happen to me,yesterday sold a car ,winner dosen't get in contact someone else offers £50 more!but he dosen't turn up either.now i have to pay £30 fees,ebay will contact buyer to confirm ,but being a liar he will not confirm my story and I lose out.

I can't believe you seem to want to take another persons offer to buy because the winning bidder has not been in touch for a few hours since the auction ended!
Its a Sunday FFS, people have lives, go out, do stuff.

But if it is eating you up, then I believe he has four days to be in touch before you can raise a query.

the item was purchase by mistake by my doughter as she was using my account while i was away
i do apologise for it

Yeah right...the joys of ebay..still I bought a shed for the missis of ebay to learn to drive in £250, 10 month MOT and runs like a dream..so who am I to talk

Raise a non-payment strike against this lying git, the "daughter bid by mistake" is too common an excuse and get your fees back.

The either re-list or sell to other person.

Have told him I will be reporting the non payment as there is no other way of getting my money back.
