Would you buy a Boxster with £6k or something else?

I've heard all sorts of horror stories regarding the engines going pop... I don't want to buy another car that costs me shedloads and never so much as sniffs the tarmac!
Can they be bought sensibly at this money in a reasonably dignified spec (Dog poo brown interior anyone?)
It's got to be a reasonably pokey, reliable (as much as poss) 2 seater sports car... If you can't recommend a Boxster at that money, what would you recommend?
I own or have had - Audi TT, Porsche 944, TVR Chimaera.
Just fancy a bit of fun over summer that might still be worth something when I come to sell it

get it checked by someone who knows them id say before buyinga 6k boxster will be a 2.5 which are shockingly slow if compared to insurance group and servicing costs ..... i've driven one ! very little difference in pace compared to mine.
I'd save another grand and get yourself a 450 chim or 430HC , far nicer looking and a much better occassion sort of car.

find a few cars and go see them, and pick the best for you mate
there are bargains to be had, and not every 6k porsche is a heap of trouble as some may have you think.
and given the choice, id have the porsche over a honda any day. and if your worried about the porsche, for gods sake stay away from the TVR option.

Rule 1 - the price you pay for a car is irrelevant.
Rule 2 - cars which were expensive when new are still expensive when they get older.
Rule 3 - budget for 5% of what the car cost BRAND NEW as your annual maintenance costs and with a bit of luck you won't get any unpleasant surprises. (So that's £2,000 a year on a £40k Porsche)
Rule 4 - fancy used cars may cost the same as a Ford Fiesta, but you'll never run one for Fiesta money.
