Leathery smell

My E65 is five years old now and any lingering new car smell has long since departed. I recently tried the Liquid Leather air freshener and for all that it does smell leathery, it doesn't really smell like a car, unless the car in question is one that a Spitfire pilot might have driven to the airfield in WW2. My wife thinks that it smells a bit like 'old man', which I don't think is a compliment.

Pay a local valeting outfit (who have an Aromatek or other fogger machine) to do it, whilst the recirculation and air con are running.
That should neutralise the malodours and distinfect the air vents.
Change the cabin filter while you're at it - activated charcoal if you can get one for yours, and if you want leather smell, clean the seats with Dr Leather wipes or LTT Solutions' cleaner and preserver.
They also do a leather smell too - the real thing, not some synthesised version that vaguely resembles your recollection of what leather smells like.

If its any help when I used to work for BMW as a valet my collegues and I thoroughly enjoyed driving the E65, the drivers seat in it is a wonderful place to be
