Another 'help me choose' thread....

[V8 Disco]

Evening.. I am looking for ideas as to my next car; my Accord 2.4 Type-S is by far the most reliable car I have ever owned, but sometime soon I guess I will have to replace it - 7 years and 130k must take its toll sooner or later.

Here's the specification list:

Budget £12k, must be less than seven years old
Preferably a coupe, but a saloon that ticks the other boxes is ok
Good handling - maybe even good enough for an occasional trackday
Good performance - doesn't need to be blistering - 0-60 in eight or less and swift overtaking more important
Good economy - I am used to the Accord returning an easy 30-35 mpg overall so don't want worse
Must be a 2+2 if a coupe - daughter #1 has flown the nest, however daughter #2 still needs dads taxi!

Here's my current list:

Mazda MX-8 - but the economy's not good enough, both on petrol and servicing
'Teg DC5 - almost perfect but too little room in the back
Evo 8 - bit worried about running costs - be interested to hear others experience
E46 330 Coupe - not bad - but daft prices compared with other kit

So - please, any other ideas?
I have been searching the classifieds endlessly, thus far to no avail.

Thanks - interesting suggestion, can't help thinking it'd be a bit of a shock going from i-VTEC revviness to an oil burner, but I have driven an E39 530d and was very impressed with the torque. Maybe I'll try one - certainly 50mpg is appealing!

The shove you get in 3rd from 1500-3000 revs is quite pleasing.:-)
