I've got the wife looking for a new car to replace her Freelander, and I'm at bit of a loss as to what to suggest.
In short, we've got 5-6K to play with, a couple of fomblets to stick in the back, plus we occasionally tow a medium sized boat around the countryside.
Thing is, the wife is quite fashion conscious, and thus isn't too enamored with the idea of an MPV or an estate.
Running costs are reasonably important, but so is towing grunt.
Any ideas?

i'm considering buying a fire engine (dennis rapier), take the box off and put a small box on the back fitting a westfield. You get 6 seats, loads of torque to pull a large caravan. Crazy? Easy to drive with the driving position, my wife has no problems driving mine and they are quite chuckable for their size and considering they are a yank tank
2wd has alightly better MPG but the awd version could be better for towing boats off a jettie
They do around 23-25 mpg

for the size and economy (or lack of) Nissan Patrols are much cheaper, and IMO better.
if you don't need the offroad ability of which LCs and Patrols are well known for, then I would stick with a softroader, the fuel economy will be much better.

What's that then? To some, that's what I tow around the country behind my 330d (although a 1.1 polo would be quite adequate).
