insurance for a couple of months - best way

our daughter was made redundant a couple of weeks ago and they are about to take back her company car. In the mean time we have got her an old banger to get around in.

Just as she was about to insure it, she got a new job with a company car... but she wont get the car for 2-3 months. In the mean time she needs to insure the old banger... Whats the best way to do this? Is it to take out a policy and pay monthly and then stop the payment when she has her new car?
