Nice car + driven fast = stolen?

Just wondering what peoples perception is when they see expensive cars being driven fast / or stupid on the roads.

I seen a new M3 come sideways out of a housing estate onto a dual carriageway before blasting it up through the gears and off into the distance. The friend who I was with said it must have just been stolen, perhaps, but the first thing I did when I bought my Noble was go to Tescos car park and doughnut the fk out of it

Imo, the more expensive a car, the harsher you should drive it, thats what its for.

Depends if you can see the driver. Lets say he's a young lad like me but the chav sort driving a 911 like his hair is on fire I'd probably think he's stole it.
My dads friend has an old Mustang that he drives like a nutter and it's not stolen. He's a normal person. Depends on the driver.

I'd like to think it's being driven by the owner. After all, what's the point in having a 400bhp car and not driving it fast every once in a while?

Ill be honest and say ive never really seen any precious metal getting a good hiding on the road. Its always just a cruise. Ive never been to many supercar meets or anything though.

Always wanted somthing nice to cane it past me on the m.way at silly leptons. Never happened though.

That's just dull though, the B roads are far more fun. Anyone can go fast in a straight line

I've had a few clients with nice cars who have overtaken me at warp speeds when on a shoot. Quite a sight!

True, although its the sight and sound of eg. a 430 Scuderia ripping it past me at the top of 4th and changing into 5th just in front. M.way or not, it would make me smile.

There's a time and a place for nice cars to be driven hard. Most owners will care too much about their cars to risk caning them when there's lots of road furniture and other traffic around, hence you don't usually see it happening.

OT story - Le-mans 07 - me in my Escort, loaded up to the hilt, suspension bottomed out on the back going like the clappers down the N138. Couple of cars full of friends too.

Voice from rearmost car comes over the walkie-talkie - "er lads, you might want to check this out".

Headlights in the mirror.. Gaining. Nope, Quicker than that. I will never forget it.

In this short period of time we applied correct protocol and wound windows down, stuck heads out.

WHAM. My little Escort damn nearly flipped over.

We got well and truly 'buzzed'.

Ferrari F40. Ferrari F50. Lamborghini Diablo.

Must have been going 150mph. Nose to tail. Like a pack of F-16's going past.

Absolute magic. Not one of us had chance to turn a camera on or anything - we were laughing and whooping - it was brilliant.

I highly doubt those three were stolen. Did wonder how many Euro's they were carrying each in order to feel they could pull that kind of speed off.

I was going to say the same thing. Very rare to see something such as a 911 being given some stick

I got my driving license in 1990, and have driven hundreds of thousands of miles since then.

I have never seen a 911 being driven enthusiastically.

I'd suggest one or more of the following:
Go to a trackday
Go on a PH hoon
Go to the Alps
Go to Le Mans 24h

I've seen 911s being driven hard on 3 of those and reports from friends driving to Le Mans have confirmed the 4th.

I see at least 3 911's go past my office window everyday giving it the beans - I instantly recognise the sound. All 3 are 996/997's though, people that work nearby.


ETA - related to Ewens post - I also have distinct memories of map-reading in a 993 Turbo, following PH'er 'burriana' in the most beautiful 911 RS rep (White, Red decals) you can imagine, driving it how it deserved.

Really? Blimey, I always have a bedding in period in a new car where I treat it so gently as it's shiny and new. I might have treated myself to a blast along my favourite road, but spinning it up in a supermarket car park? Not my style, but each to their own sir!
