As a pedestrian, have you heard anyone 'heel & toe?'

I drive a van for work, I hate it, but I do have fun trying to heel & toe whenever I can.
As I was slowing to drive into our yard this morning, I gave it a go, and a work colleague looked at me as if I was mad!

Which got me thinking, I never hear anyone rev-matching etc..

I have only heard it once, on an older Civic Type R.

So, has anyone else heard anyone doing it??

Would it sound that much different to normal driving? Unless you need to match the revs to about 4k it isnt really going to be audible.
What did your work colleague say? and how many rpm did you go from/to?

No, but I've heard someone double clutch. On the upshifts for some reason.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I do know a pedestrian has heard me double clutch as I was slowing down while he strolled across the road. He got the wrong impression and thought I was revving at him to get him to hurry up, so strolled even more slowly and glared at me.

So I shaved my head, grew a goatee and gained 5 inches in height and beat him to death with his own fingernails etc etc.

I H&T all the time in Petrol cars although I do struggle in certain BMW's as they have the bottom pivoting peddle.

diesels you have to have a 1 minute pre empting before you can change down

Oddly i heard a s2000 heel and toe into a corner by my parents this weekend and i was thinking the exact same thing.
It did occur to me though that i only noticed the S2000 had done it because he had a loud exhaust and sounded like he had gone well over "matching the revs"

If the blip is pretty much correct and the whole process done correctly you shouldn't really notice it outside the car. On most road cars also the flywheel isn't light enough to get a good rise in revs, so you won't hear much which doesn't just sound like a normal gearchange as the engine will end up dragging the revs up anyway.

In most cases if you do hear it it's either a decent car with loudish exhaust, or the driver is really just blipping the throttle in neutral and not a real heel/toe.

Heard a BMW M3 do it just the other night, other than that it's pretty bloody rare. I don't necessarily HT often, but I do give a blip in neutral to ease the shifts.

My first car was a Spitfire with a knackered diff, and I drove that for four years. I still double declutch downchanges, can't help myself.

I do it in my old Mini, mainly because its really easy to do, and sounds really cool. Sometimes you even get a nice little pop from the exhaust! (I'm such a chav!)

I always do it myself in the work van, have had a few strange looks before now... Always a must in my car, not only for smoother driving but also prolonging the drivetrain.

Due to the spastic positioning of pedals (accelerator about 7 miles further forward than brake) heel-and-toeing would be impossible unless you had size 15 feet which had a 90 degree split in the middle. I do rev match though, and try to double declutch.

I never have. I always assume 99.9% of people hearing me do it will assume I'm some sort of boy racer and revving for the fun and or attention of it though. They are only likely to hear it if you are making more than usual standard progress though otherwise your matching revs would not be so high.

Take a trip round Castle Combe in my old Dolomite Sprint cos I have to heel and toe because Sprints gearboxes date back to the fifties err a bit like me and the car.

Apart from other PHers, no. I occasionally get dirty looks from passers by who watch me (in the VX with its straight pipes) pull up to a junction using the engine braking primarily. It's easier, keeps in in the right gear should the hazard disappear and also makes me feel like a better driver.
