My mum told me about her speaking to her neighbour, she said she had seen his son driving so assumed congratulations were in order as he had passed his test, indeed he had, she remarked that it must have cost a fortune to insure a new driver on a car like his (Audi A4 Cab, turbo petrol something or other), turns out he isn't insured to drive it....
He looked sheepish but said he only goes to the shops in it which is round the corner or only drives when they are with him, the quote was 8 grand so they have decided to just not bother by the sounds of it, my mum doesn't want to get involved and fall out with them but to be honest I would make it clear if I see him again I would ring the Police, I don't think the kid needs to start his driving career with a ban but he needs to stop driving a high powered car round uninsured, there is a reason the premium is 8 grand for a 17 year old.

As much as I dislike uninsured drivers, I fail to see how insurance saves lives.
Due to cost, by preventing inexperienced drivers as a general rule from driving cars that are too powerful for them, at the very least if he bumps you and there is no injury its way more complicated than if he was insured.J4CKO said:

Correct. If stopped he will be done for no insurance. His mom will then be done for knowingly letting an uninsured driver use the car.
At this point the parent usually claims that they did not know their offspring had used the car thinking this will get them off - which it will, but then offspring will be done for no insurance and TWOC.
So choice to parent is insurance charges to both or turn their kid into a car thief.
That should convince them.

There really is no other way. If his mother condones it, then reporting him is the obvious way to solve it but just don't let him know it was you or you might find your car with a nice key mark down the side.
Someone will come on here blah blah don't get involved, noone likes a snitch etc but at the end of the day its our fking insurance that goes up because of s like that and just imagine one day he crashes into you or someone you know how annoyed/guilty are you going to feel knowing you could of done something about that?
He could easily buy a less powerful car!

If nothing else, by letting him drive it they are opening him up to a potential problems for the future, if he does get caught he will get a criminal record and wont get touched for insurance for some years, even at the usual two grand plus for a young driver.
I don't know how it is Tenuous, new driver plus a 200 bhp car and no insurance sounds like a recipe for problems to me, he was seen "skidding the tyres" showing off to the younger kids playing football.
