which for 28k, m5 or clk63?

Tempted to change the 135i in the next month and have (almost) narrowed it down to these two.

Test drove both yesterday, both 07, both 20k miles, both 28k.

clk63 felt faster, tbh the engine is an absolute animal and seemed more powerful while sounding better.

The m5 handled better, proper steering feel and super sharp turn in.

Depreciation I reckon will be about equal with both being worth 12k in 3 years (maybe a bit more if kept properly and immaculate as I tend to do)

Told the garages I'd sleep on it but i'm still none the wiser! Heading out for the day now but looking forward to opinions/views from any other owners of either?

I would go for the CLK, the noise from the AMG engines is brilliant

Depends if you need the praticality of an M5 though

I can see the CLK dropping in price more than the M5, I think the M5 will have "legendary" status and keep a strong following for years to come. The CLK will probably take a hit when the AMG C-Class coupe comes out.

As an after thought, What about an M3 or Lexus ISF?

I could imagine finding it difficult to choose between that pair. My FIL's M5 makes a great sound and i've driven a CL55 AMG so know that big engined AMG Mercs are fantastic.

While it's better looking, i think though you may regret buying the CLK TBH. The M5 is a much more focused car, yet also practical and much more entertaining. There is also the novelty of doing warped speeds in a 4-door Saloon, something that's no big deal in a Coupe like the CLK.

M5 all the way, you know you want to!

Properly tough one that!

Merc for that mental engine but an M5 is an M5!
CLK body and style just doesn't seem 'special' enough.

My Gaffa has a cls 63 and it doesnt "feel" fast enough for a 500 brake car, (not noisey,and animalistic enough for me.) Although it does get to triple figures rather quickly ,but in a linier wafty way.....

My money would be on the M5 with free flowing air filters and exhausts to compliment it.
