looking to buy a private plate. now the one i want according to autotrader is on a ford escort. is there any way i can get the owners details so i can see if he is interested in selling

Legally, no.
If you know someone with access to the PNC or an insurance database or something then most probably.
But you'd have some explaining to do as to how you got their details.
