Stupid insurance variations!
Discussion
Got my renewal through today - quite good as it happens since I turned 25. But obviously wanted to try and beat it. I'm with Elephant so normally try Admiral and get them to match it, works most years.
So I do it, call Elephant up and go through the quote with them. I'd managed to shave £380 off my quote.
When she compared them from last year she noted that one of my named drivers had changed from Property Developer to Company Director. She questioned which one he was. I said he's both, and a company secretary, and a chartered surveyor (which is what I had myself down as).
Then she questioned me, I had surveyor down last year and had chartered surveyor this year. I'm also technically a company director, so I said to put me down as the one which saved me the most money, same as with my Dad.
Then she mentioned my none fault claim which I told her wasn't even a claim as the two insurance companies were playing silly buggers and the other guy wouldn't admit fault - so both parties dropped it due to it only being a small scuff.
Then... she said I have the car down as being manufactured in 2004 yet on my new quote I had it down as 2005. It was Jan 2005 on a 54 plate, so I just told her, no, it's a 54 plate, my mistake. Apparantly that small matter of what could have been days makes a difference of about £50.
We couldn't agree so I told her to cancel my policy and I'd have a play with the online quote system, juggle it about (keeping it truthful and legal) and buy it over the internet.
Ended up getting my £1090 quote down to just over £700 whilst also adding protected no claims, with the same f'ing company just by juggling a few bits and pieces.
