Just been to our local Tesco with the Mrs, and was amused to see that the bloke in front of us at the checkout had a steering wheel amongst his weekly shop.
I just had to follow him out, he quickly fitted it back on his Series 3 Land Rover.
Bit extreme, but effective bit of car security.

Just like a neighbour of mine, who always sets his house alarm. There's never been a break in around here for all the time we've been here - fifteen years. But that doesn't stop him setting it, just in case. The damn thing goes off by accident every month. Always when they are out. Always annoys everyone around them like clockwork. I feel like stealing his damn alarm.

Damned annoying but, possibly, the chap has the alarm down with his household insurance for added discount. If so, no alarm, no insurance payout. OT

So by the same logic do you still lock your door at night? If your neighbourhood is so safe why bother having locks, just a waste of time OT

I often carry my removable wheel (and FIA key) if I'm off into the shop. It's not that I'm scared somone will hotwire the 7 in broad daylight, the worry is some chav tit will ponce my steering wheel or big red key. It's not like I can get a spare down at Halfords, is it?
PS - of course your neighbour sets his alarm. He's be mad not to. He should sort the falce alarms though, because it's rendering the alarm slightly useless...

I don't believe I could purchase a similar car to mine regardless of what the insurance pays out.

I never have and never will. I've spoken to my friends about this subject before. None of them ever have or will either. They are nothing more than a waste of time IMO.
