Hell yes, epic magazine.

Bought my Westfield from the classifieds back in 1997. I still have that issue, and some select other ones at home.

Had a couple of mates with their car's in it as well.

Back in the mid 90s I used to regularly buy Max Power, Revs, Cars and Car Conversions plus I had a subscription to Top Gear Magazine (they lured me in with the double CD of driving music)

When I pop into WH Smiths (or whatever they are called now) it still amazes me how many car magazines there are as I haven't bought one in over 20 years.

Used to love CCC and was gutted when it stopped. I emailed Dave Walker at the time and it seemed the end was rather sudden.

You just reminded me, I won a Jetex exhaust in a competition in CCC. You had to say why you wanted to win one, and my winning line was "I am bound to win, as Jetex don't do an exhaust for a Mini !". Jetex were very good and sent me a catalogue to choose some pipes, silencers and tailpipes with all the fitting kit to make my own. It worked quite well and lasted an awful lot longer than the Janspeed one that was on before it.

CCC and Rally Sport were my magazines of choice through the mid to late 90s.

Everything now seems too polished, too 'glossy', just extended advertorials and watch brochures.

As a surprise for my son I sent his car in to the readers rides section and they did a full page article on it. He had done a lot of work on it.

It didn't appear for a couple of months and it was agony not telling him but when it finally appeared he was over the moon.

Still got a copy.

I had a few of the projects I worked on in CCC, did some in depth features on engines and racing cars with Dave Walker and Mark Hales.

It was a great magazine for car enthusiasts and covered the technical side well.

I was an avid reader. Terry Grimwood, Dave Vizard etc. all brilliant journalists and authors.

Dave's column was also the first bit I read, legend of a bloke. Still going with Emerald as well!

And I thought I was special.
I also won a competition in CCC & got to drive a Caterham on a hill climb. Apparently I was chosen as they thought I'd lied about my name (have the same surname as a famous footballer).

My prize was a ride in rally champion David Llewellin’s works Vauxhall Astra.

Jetex exhausts are still going and still with the same owner since being founded in 1986

Used to really enjoy Car and Car Conversions, crazy to think the first issue was in February 1965

Triple C was excellent, probably the best of its day, great memories of the late 70's and through the 80's car modding/motorsport era.

I'd stopped buying it by the early 90's though.

CCC on a monthly basis and Muttering Screws on a weekly basis were essential reading smile
