Exact list price of luxury car tax

Does anyone know the exact list price a car is subject to the “luxury” car tax. Parents are looking to buy a T Roc and the list is just over £40k. Even the dealer seems confused. My understanding is if the first RFL subtracted from the list price is below £40k then it does not apply, therefore making actual threshold £40500ish.

It’s £40k and doesn’t include the road tax as part of the list price.

It's easy with VW as the configurator can show the P11D value, which is the OTR price less VED and registration fee. The expensive car supplement is based off that.

It’s £40k and it’s printed on the front of the V5 so get the dealer to look at that.

Used and the dealer would have all the information, I think the post suggests it was new,

If it’s new; then it’s the P11D value. Dealer should be able to give this very easily.

The salesman/woman should know without having to wait for a V5 to be issued.

If they are confused it will be because they knows it might put somebody off buying a car that will attract the premium car tax so they are trying to be as vague as possible until the car has been bought.

You could spec it on the configurator and there’s a handy little button to show P11D prices.

AFAIK no, but it is the full price rather than including any discounts negotiated/special offers/incentives etc. if that makes sense.

Friend of mine got caught out by that, full list was over £40k, discounted offer £38 ish, got stung for full tax.

And because you don't start paying it until year 2 it can come as a surprise if the salesman doesn't make you aware.
