… when traffic is queuing and causing me to brake, and you use your hazards briefly, is that:

A) to say thanks
B) to say sorry, you misjudged that a bit but thankfully it turned out okay, or
C) because you couldn’t give a toss about much at all but it’s probably a good idea to give the impression of A) or B) just to avoid the situation getting nasty, you know, stopping some road rage kicking off?

Ease off and get on with your day. No point getting irate over something you have no control over, the other driver will not know, and wouldn’t care if they did.

I don’t get irate. Just curious about the motivation.

(C) yeah I know that was a prick move but by flashing my indicators I’m hoping you’ll think I’m not a total prick.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Just think of the paperwork you managed to avoid.

The hazards just confirm what you are immediately thinking i.e. they are a hazard and and using the hazards is really about making them feel better as if it somehow magically excuses them.

One day they will do the same stunt in front of an HGV and it won't end well for them.
