Does anyone remember VXRMarc and his 2008 Astra that he did an ultra detail on?
https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/threads/vxrmarcs-...

The MOT expired in 2019 - I wonder if he ever drove it or was it just a garage queen?

Blimey, I forgot about this one. Didn't it have something crazy like 50 layers of wax on it?!

There were/are some absolute nutters on the detailing forum. Remember the chap who detailed his Dyson?!

Like most, he probably kept it for a few years, sold it to someone who used it as a car, and the undid all his hard work. frown

It’s been a while, but didn’t he rinse it with Evian or the like?

ISTR that particular user did have his tongue in his cheek when he did that.

I'm very anal and ocd with everything, my favourite cars and the house Included but this is totally insane.
I have to take medication to control my total cleaning disorder but when you get to this level and it takes over your life you really need professional helpspin

I like a clean shiny car. I even find inspiration in watching videos from people like Car Cleaning Guru and Ammo NYC, I'll even do a proper deep clean on cars sometimes with claybars, APC and the like.

But is there something I'm missing about that paint? After 3 months work it just looks like normal flat white, albeit very shiny and free of orange peel type defects. Is that because it's photos, and it looks more "special" in the metal?

There was a good parody that followed on from it:

That was extremely cringeworthy!

I love DetailingWorld, there's plenty of good solid info and great cars on there, I'm fussy about my own cars. Couldn't help but feel with that whole VXR thread it was about, 'out-OCD-ing' everyone. Rinsing your car with office water cooler bottles for example! That isn't what even pro-detailers do now.

As someone said, I suspect someone else bought the car, used it more normally and undid all the OCD-ness!

Wasn’t it the same fella and didn’t the Dyson thread come first?

I’ve used a clay bar on my two buckets before. I’m definitely not a nutter.
