I also got ticked off with the AAs renewal price and left them last year.
Joined this lot on recommendation from a motorcycle forum I'm on.
Not had to use them so can't say if they would be any better than the AA.

Can you get it via Bank Account?
I’m with Barclays, £14.50 a month for RAC & Travel Insurance
Can’t see any mention of cars age in the full T&Cs

Define older.
I have 2 cars covered with auto aid-10 year old and 29 year old. Only requirement is to pay first £25 of any call out due to the age.
The 10year old was recovered from my drive to a garage 30 miles away and it cost £25 a month ago.

174 a year? I pay around 70* through my car insurance. RAC were about 135 a year before that. Some provide inclusive through their bank but it only covers to nearest garage.

  • which is usually AA but is random.

Covers all holidays also, not too bad!

Didn't specify that in the original post.

be aware that breakdown recovery cover is st these days and you're usually better off identifying the recovery companies in the area you're heading to and putting their numbers in your phone. that way you can call them direct if you need help.

I pay about £150pa to add UK and European breakdown to the insurance on our family bus (a 16 year old Lexus LS460, so a big, heavy complicated and relatively rare old thing with so much to go wrong). That's through LVs recovery company (Britannia IIRC) which got good reviews and industry scores when I first took it out a couple of years ago.

Can't cancel it now as that will initiate my car's self destruct sequence.

Have you tried to haggle with the AA ?
They like to try it on at each renewal and usually a polite phone call is worth it.
Funnily enough it was mentioned on that Martin Lewis programme last night and either with AA or RAC there is a 80%+ chance of getting the price reduced.

£63 a year personal cover with Auto Aid, add a tenner for a partner. Skoda clutch went a few weeks ago and Auto Aid sent a National Rescue recovery truck and took it straight to the garage, very quick and no messing.

This!!

Money saving expert endorse them. I have had them for years, called out 3 times. All good and cheap.

I get it with my Nationwide Flexplus account - £12 a month for the account, including breakdown, travel insurance, and mobile phone cover. They've attended to my old BMW (last time it was needed it was 22 years old). The only caveat as I can see is they don't recover for the same fault twice.

Auto-aid cover me & Mrs Marky in my 52 year old Cortina, modern bike, 15 year old van, 8 year old car. All for the princely sum of less than £70.

My 2004 Saab is covered by the AA (cost me about £80 for the year) and I had no extras to pay or anything when the nice man, very very nice man, came out and thumped my car with a big hammer when the fuel pump had a hissy fit in a Tesco car park.

I didn't have any idea that the AA had limits on its coverage for age
