Koenigsegg reclaims Laguna Seca production record

The Czinger-Koenigsegg ding-dong continues, still with less than a second of clear air between them

While a Laguna Seca record doesn’t bring quite the prestige of a Nordschleife hot lap, there’s undoubtedly a lot of credibility in getting around America’s most famous track faster than anything else. Just look at the effort being put into the ‘homologated production car’ record by Koenigsegg and Czinger; back in 2021, the 21C claimed a 1:25.44, two seconds faster than the previous record-holding incumbent (a McLaren Senna, for crying out loud) and unashamedly announcing its 3D-printed awesomeness to the world.

Koenigsegg then dipped under 1:25 last year, with a Jesko claiming 1:24.86 as part of Monterey Car Week. But Czinger wasn’t having any of that on its home circuit, and promptly peed on Koenigsegg’s chips (or whatever they eat in California at that time of year) with a 1:24:75 a matter of days later. A sufficient number of days for Koenigsegg to be back in Sweden and not be able to go any faster in 2024. But they have gone faster in 2025…

Never let it be said that these two aren’t committed to billionaire bragging rights. Because now any of the 30 Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear owners will be able to lord it over the common-as-much Czinger customer (80 units) thanks to a 1:24.16 lap at Laguna Seca. Yes, less than three-quarters of a second over the 2.238 miles, but more clear air than there was between Jesko and 21C. The lap was achieved earlier this week, with driving by Markus Lundh - the same legend who does the 0-400-0 stuff - and verification by Racelogic. The SS even adhered to a 90dB noise limit on the day with the help of an extra silencer. So Bedford Autodrome will be no trouble whatsoever.

Christian von Koenigsegg said: “We knew that the Sadair’s Spear had the potential to beat the lap record. To achieve this feat with the added muffler behind the car shows the potential for even greater performance on a less noise-restricted day. That the everyday-usable and livable Sadair’s Spear — with Autoskin, electric seats, sound deadening, amplifiers, and more — can outperform stripped-out track cars is a true testament to the depth of engineering that goes into our creations. I am very proud of our results and achievements, made possible only through solid and passionate teamwork.” Fingers crossed all 30 of those very lucky customers get to the track and find out exactly what their Koenigsegg is capable of. Ideally with a Czinger in tow, too…
